Members of the San Francisco Police Department Gang Task Force arrested eight members of a Chinese gang yesterday, September 10. Taken into custody were seven juveniles ranging in age from 15 to 17, and one adult, Duc Truong, 18, all of San Francisco. Each arrest was made at a different location in the City, between 6:00 and 10:00 A.M. The arrests were based on search warrants and evidence seized at each of the locations.
The arrests were the result of efforts made by the Gang Task Force, School Resource Officers (SROs), and witnesses.
All the individuals arrested were members of a Chinese gang known as the True Brothers. They targeted rival juvenile gang members, as well as juveniles not associated with a gang. Over the past two months, these gang members were responsible for five attacks in the Richmond and Taraval districts. Using baseball bats and knives, they attacked their victims at all hours of the day or the night. In one case, a victim suffered life-threatening injuries.
All of those arrested have been charged with aggravated assault, using a deadly weapon, and false imprisonment. One of the juvenile suspects was also charged with robbery.
The Police Department urges others who might have been victims of these gang attacks to contact police. In addition, anyone who may have more information regarding these attacks is encouraged to contact the police or to call the Confidential Tip Line at 415-575-4444.
