Early this morning, Friday, September 10, members of the San Francisco Police Department Gang Task Force, Field Operations Bureau and the Drug Enforcement Agency conducted three search warrants and two probation searches in and around housing projects in the Western Addition. The searches demonstrate the proactive attempt on the part of the police department and federal agencies to help abate the gun violence that has been occurring in this section of the city. As a result of the searches, police arrested two men and seized two assault weapons, a Tech 9 and an AK-47, a shotgun and two handguns. In addition, police seized a quantity of crack cocaine.
Taken into custody were Byron Cheeves, 22, and Donald Carter, 48, both of San Francisco. San Francisco police will be pursuing federal firearms charges against these two men.
The firearms seized as a result of these arrests will be on display for the media at the Northern Station Community Room, 1125 Fillmore Street at Turk, today from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. Gang Task Force members will be available for comment during that time.
