San Francisco Police arrested a suspect in a theft that occurred August 26 at the construction site of a municipal swimming pool at 19th Avenue and Wawona Street at approximately
5:50 A.M. Taken into custody was Brittany McCann, 19, of San Francisco.
In this incident, a patrol unit from Taraval Station saw a 2007 silver Mercedes-Benz parked on 19th Avenue near the construction site. There was a male suspect sitting in the driver's seat, while McCann and a second male suspect appeared to be loading items into the rear of the car. When the officers drove up to the vehicle, McCann jumped into the passenger seat and the driver sped off, striking one of the officers. The other male suspect ran into the construction site.
The officers drove after the suspect vehicle, and at the intersection of Wawona and 22nd Avenue saw that it had collided with two parked cars. As the officers approached the car, the male suspect got out of the car and ran off toward Stern Grove and McCann ran down 22nd Avenue. Thanks to a citizen who pointed out where McCann was hiding in a stairway, police were able to arrest her. In the car, police found a quantity of electrical cables from the construction site, including a variety of power cords. McCann was also in possession of a false identity card.
McCann was charged with grand theft, conspiracy, assault, and possessing false identification, and remains in custody. The two male suspects, described as Hispanic males, age unknown, each approximately 5'8 , 180 lbs., remain at large.
