San Francisco Police Arrest Father and Son on Gun and Narcotic Charges
San Franciscopolice arrested a father and son August 13 on gun and narcotic charges. Taken into custody at Eddy and Gough streets at approximately 10:40 P.M. were Lawrence Martin, 49, and his son, Lawrence Martin Jr., 30.
Two officers assigned to the Specialist Violence Reduction Team were in the area of Polk and Eddy streets when they heard a broadcast of a man with a gun in the vicinity. At Eddy and Franklin streets they saw two men, one of whom matched the broadcast description of the man with the gun. When the suspects saw the car they began running westbound on Eddy toward Gough.
One officer got out of the vehicle and chased the elder suspect and detained him at the corner of Eddy and Gough. The other officer used his car to block the younger suspect who had run across the street. Police recovered a handgun discarded at the base of a street tree at the exact location on the 900 block of Eddy where the officers first observed the younger suspect. The handgun was loaded and had been cocked. Police also found rock cocaine in the pocket of the elder Martin.
Investigators are investigating the possibility that the suspects were involved in a robbery that had occurred earlier on the 300 block of Hyde Street.
Martin was charged with possession of narcotics and parole violation. Martin Jr. was charged with a convicted felon possessing a prohibited firearm, carrying a concealed weapon, and carrying a loaded firearm.
