Today, August 14, San Francisco Police arrested Sergeant A.F. of the San Francisco Police Department pursuant to a District Attorney arrest warrant for the alleged misuse of confidential criminal computer databases. The charges stem from an 18-month investigation conducted by the Special Investigations Division of the San Francisco Police Department, which showed that A.F. accessed database information for personal reasons. The access, control and use of confidential computer database information is in violation of the California Penal Code Section 502.
A.F., 46, joined the San Francisco Police Department in September, 1989. Fontenot was booked this evening into the San Francisco County Jail and was released after posting bail. A.F. has been administratively suspended from duty without pay.
In January, 2005, Police Chief Heather Fong filed administrative charges at the Police Commission level in connection with this incident.
