San Francisco Police arrested a man and a woman yesterday afternoon in connection with a series of auto break-ins and other thefts, including auto theft and stealing packages left by delivery services on front steps. Taken into custody shortly after 2:00 P.M. were Kenneth Rael, 26, and Corina Shortal, 28, both of San Francisco.
Park Police Station officers first did a traffic stop at Haight and Stanyan on a 1992 Saturn two-door, blue sedan being driven by Shortal. A check of the vehicle confirmed it as stolen. Inside the car, police found numerous property items, including purses, and prescription drugs, CDs, a coin collection, cell phones, credit cards, and various packages, some still unopened, delivered by delivery companies that police believe the suspects took from residence doorsteps. Police also found burglary tools inside the car. In addition, police found multiple sets of car keys that Rael had in his pocket. The keys had been shaved, that is, altered in such a way as to start car engines of various car makes.
Rael, on parole for auto theft, was charged with vehicle theft, possession of burglary tools and parole violation. Shortal was charged with vehicle theft, possession of burglary tools, possession of stolen property, possession of prescription medications. Both Rael and Shortal were taken into custody without incident and booked at County Jail.
