San Francisco Police seized approximately 1,000 pounds of fireworks over the Fourth of July holiday. The fireworks were seized throughout the city. Police had previously addressed the public about the illegality of fireworks within the city and repeatedly cautioned citizens about fireworks-related safety issues. The fireworks included M-80s, large packs of firecrackers, two-inch mortars, and Roman candles.
The danger of fireworks was demonstrated when, in the early morning of July 5, an explosive device went off in the hand of a 26-year-old male, severely injuring him.
