The official City of San Francisco Independence Day fireworks displays will be launched from Muni Pier at the foot of Van Ness Avenue and from a barge on the bay just north of Pier 39 on Wednesday, July 4 starting at 9:30 P.M. and lasting for approximately 20 minutes. Large crowds are expected at viewing areas on the Marina Green and the vicinity of the Embarcadero. Police will be deployed to enforce drinking in public and public nuisance violations, as well as discharging of fireworks violations. The public is reminded that the sale and use of fireworks within city limits is illegal.
To ensure public safety, there will be street closures from 4:00 P.M., July 4 to 4:00 A.M., July 5 in portions of the Bayview district, including Candlestick Heights, Executive Park and the vicinity of Monster Park. These were the locations where the discharge of fireworks last year constituted a significant public danger.
The public is advised that the evening's events will have a significant effect on traffic conditions in the vicinity of the fireworks venues, particularly in the Marina Green area, and motorists should plan accordingly. Starting at 9:30 P.M., all traffic north of Bay Street in the Marina District will be restricted to residents only. The public is encouraged to use public transit during the evening.
The San Francisco Police Department is committed to ensuring public safety, not only during holidays that include large public celebrations, but on a daily basis, working closely with other local, state and federal agencies.
