Police Chief Heather Fong will attend a ceremony acknowledging receipt of a $1 million endowment to Pets Unlimited in honor of the late Sergeant Darryl Tsujimoto, officer-in-charge of the SFPD's Canine Unit, on Saturday, June 30, at Pets Unlimited, 2343 Fillmore Street at Washington Street, at 1:00 P.M.
The endowment, established by San Francisco philanthropist Nina Ireland, a longtime admirer of the SFPD's Canine Unit, will be used by Pets Unlimited, San Francisco's oldest non-profit animal shelter and veterinary hospital. The money will help fund many aspects of animal care, including the medical care of retired police dogs.
Chief Fong will deliver a proclamation from the Office of the Mayor in honor of Sergeant Tsujimoto, who died at the age of 41 during a canine training exercise on May 1, 2006. Members of Sergeant Tsujimoto's family will be present, and there will be a demonstration by the Canine Unit demonstrating the exceptional skills Sergeant Tsujimoto instilled in the members of his unit.
