San Francisco police have seized three assault weapons in two separate arrests on June 19 and 23. In the first arrest, police at Hahn Street and Sunnydale Avenue followed the driver of a car who began eluding police. On Rey Street, the driver stopped his car, jumped out and began running. The suspect was later found in a backyard on the 400 block of Argonaut Street. Officers found an assault weapon that the suspect had been carrying and that he had ditched in the backyard. Taken into custody was Edmund Burch, 27, of San Francisco.
In the June 23 incident, police responded to a report of two persons with guns on Kiska Road in the Bayview district. Officers began searching the area and saw two males running towards Oakdale Avenue. Police finally located the suspects on the 1300 block of Ingalls Street and took them into custody. The suspects, both juveniles, were each in possession of an assault rifle.
The arrests and weapon confiscation demonstrate the quick response and determined effort by the SFPD to take dangerous weapons off the street.
Photographs of the weapons are available for viewing in the Public Affairs Office.
