In conjunction with Operation Dream, three SFPD police officers will accompany 20 San Francisco middle school students on a trip to Washington D. C., departing from San Francisco International Airport on Saturday, June 13, and returning Wednesday, June 17.
The trip is in conjunction with the Close Up Foundations, a Washington-based, non-profit organization to help educate and inspire young people to participate in the democratic process. The students were selected from Horace Mann and Visitacion Valley middle schools. The criteria for the selection were the students' level of scholarship and their desire to make a difference in their communities.
The trip is made possible by generous donations from the San Francisco Police Officers Association, Officers for Justice, San Francisco Sheriff's Association, San Francisco Latin Police Officers Association, the San Francisco Pride Alliance, and other church, civic, and individual donors.
This once-in-a-lifetime trip for the students, many of whom have never before flown traveled far from their homes, will extend their knowledge of the world. They will return to their communities ready to be active participants for positive change.
