June 11, 2004
Early today, June 11, at about 5:00 A.M., San Francisco police received a call of shots fired on the 100 block of Melrose Avenue. When they arrived, they found a victim, a male adult, inside a residence. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.
The preliminary investigation shows that a man and a woman had returned home from work between 4:15 and 4:30 A.M. and were confronted by at least two suspects, at least one of whom was armed, in the driveway at that location. The suspects forced the two victims into the residence where they ransacked the house. At some point while the suspects asked the victims various questions, one victim was shot. The motive in this incident was robbery.
The police department emphasizes that this fatal shooting involved individuals who apparently had been specifically target by the suspects. This does not appear to be a random homicide.
