French Authorities Arrive To Offer Assistance In The Hugues De La Plaza Death

On June 2, 2007, the body of 36-year-old Hugues de la Plaza was discovered in an apartment on the 400 block of Linden Street and San Francisco Police inspectors began an immediate investigation. The San Francisco Medical Examiner has since ruled the case an undetermined death case, that is to say, the death has not been ruled a homicide or a suicide.

Because the victim had dual citizenship, French authorities have agreed, at the request of Hugues de la Plaza's parents, to review this tragic death and arrived in San Francisco last Saturday, June 7. They will be here for approximately two weeks to assist in the furtherance of this investigation. San Francisco investigators have been cooperating with the French authorities over the past several months and continue to work with them. French authorities, however, have not assumed and will not assume the lead investigation of this case.

Since this case has been ruled an undetermined death case, continued speculation about whether the de la Plaza death was a homicide or a suicide does not further the interests of this case.

In its continuing investigation, San Francisco Police investigators continue to ask that members of the public who may have information that could help in the investigation of this case to contact the Homicide Section, 553-1145, or to call the Confidential Tip Line, 415-575-4444.
