Subject:     San Francisco Police Department Preparedness For Terrorist Threats Or Incidents

In light of the recent FBI announcement regarding possible terrorist activity in the United States this summer, the San Francisco Police Department will enhance its high level of preparedness. This level of preparedness includes the following:

The San Francisco Police Department keeps all members informed of local and regional anti-terrorist information.

Field patrol units conduct increased patrols, contacts and inspections of critical infrastructure, utility and transportation systems in the city, and at San Francisco International Airport.

The SFPD takes extra security measures and proactive steps to ensure public safety at high-profile events and locations.

Through grant funding, the SFPD continues to obtain general personal protection equipment and specialized equipment that would be utilized if a terrorist attack were to occur.

San Francisco police officers undergo continuous training, including participation in tabletop exercises and full-scale drills, to respond effectively in the event of a threatened or actual terrorist attack.  The SFPD continues to work collaboratively with the FBI, the Transportation Security Administration, the Department of Homeland Security and other federal agencies, as well as with other Bay Area law enforcement and governmental agencies, such as the Office of Emergency Services, the San Francisco Fire Department, and the Department of Public Health, to ensure a coordinated response to any threat or incident.

Members of the public are strongly encouraged to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious persons or packages to law enforcement.
