The San Francisco Police Department and the California Highway Patrol will conduct a Sobriety and Drivers License Checkpoint Saturday, May 26, starting at 7:00 P.M. The location will be disclosed to the media two hours prior to the commencement of the checkpoint.
This operation is part of the statewide Safe and Sober/AVOID Program, which is aimed at reducing the number of alcohol-related injuries from traffic collisions, increasing the number of arrests for driving under the influence, and educating the motoring public regarding the dangers of driving under the influence. Officers will also use this opportunity to enforce California's mandatory seat belt and child safety seat laws.
Funding for this program has been provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the Business, Transportation and Housing Agency.
