60 Middle School Students To Plant Victory Garden At Ingleside Police Station May 20

Sixty James Denman Middle School students will plant a victory garden on Wednesday, May 20, outside the Community Services Room of Ingleside Police Station, 1 Sgt. John Young Lane at San Jose Avenue, from 9:30 A.M. to 2:30 P.M. The Golden Gate Park nursery is donating many seedling plants for this project.

The event is part of a community service project through the Gang Resistance Education and Training (GREAT) program. Funded through a grant by the Bureau of Justice Assistance, the program is designed to help prevent youth crime, violence and gang involvement.

Captain David Lazar of Ingleside Station expressed thanks for the James Denman Middle School participation and was pleased to be the station selected. Community service is an important component of the GREAT program, he said. Through community service like this the students are involved in constructive activity and the project also serves to foster good relations between youth and the police department.
