Beginning May 9, San Francisco Police officers will participate in the annual national police 300-mile bicycle Police Unity Tour (P.U.T.), starting at Morris Township, New Jersey and ending in Washington, D. C. on May 12. The tour is a way of showing solidarity with the families of all police officers who have been killed in the line of duty. Each rider acquires $1700 in sponsorships to participate in the tour, which culminates at the National Law Enforcement Memorial in Washington. At the Memorial, there will be a welcoming ceremony by surviving family members, and P.U.T. participants will present a check for the money that was raised to be given to the Memorial. The goal is to raise over one million dollars.
Nearly 400 officers from law enforcement agencies from all over the country will participate this year in the tour. The San Francisco contingent will be leaving for Morris Township on Monday, May 7. The full route of the Police Unity Tour is as follows:
