San Francisco Police have arrested the suspect in the murder of a Chestnut Street nail salon owner that occurred earlier this month. Taken into custody in San Leandro last night, April 25, was Jeff Nguyen, 39, of San Leandro. He has been charged with the bludgeoning death of his wife, Mai Banh, 37, also of San Leandro.
Police responded to the salon on the 1300 block of Chestnut on Sunday, April 15, at about 10:00 P.M. after Nguyen reported to police that he had found the body. The subsequent investigation and evaluation of evidence from the business location and from Nguyen's residence and vehicle led to the identification of Nguyen as the suspect. He remains in custody in San Francisco County Jail on one count of murder. The couple's two children, boys aged 4 and 8, are in the custody of Alameda County Child's Protective Services.
Homicide inspectors continue to request that anyone who had an appointment with Banh the weekend of April 14-15 to contact the Homicide Detail, 553-1145, or anyone who may have information regarding this case to call Homicide or the Confidential Tip Line, 415-575-4444.
