San Francisco Police are investigating the beating of a homeless man in the early morning of last Sunday, March 5. In this incident, three to four Asian males repeatedly beat the man who was sleeping in a doorway on Waverly Place in Chinatown. A surveillance camera at that location recorded the assault on video. The owner of the business contacted police about the beating and the videotape yesterday, and the General Work Section of the police department initiated an immediate investigation. After the suspects left, the victim also left, leaving his belongings behind. Police have identified the victim, who has not come forward.
Based on the videotape, the three suspects are described as follows:
Asian males in their early to late 20s
There is a suspect vehicle involved, possibly a Honda Civic, gray or silver, missing a hubcap on the front passenger wheel.
Persons with information are urged to contact the General Work Section, 553-1141, or to call the Confidential Tip Line, 415-575-4444.
