San Francisco Police Arrest Suspect In U.N. Plaza Shooting January 28

San Francisco Police arrested a suspect shortly after a shooting that occurred yesterday, Monday, January 28, on the 100 block of McAllister Street near U. N. Plaza at about 9:15 P.M. Taken into custody was Pierre Ragland, 18, of San Francisco. The victim, a male, 40, of San Francisco, was transported to San Francisco General Hospital where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries from a gunshot wound to his leg.

In this incident, Gang Task Force officers in an ongoing saturation enforcement operation in the area were driving on McAllister near U. N. Plaza when they heard gunshots and saw a man limp northbound across McAllister. They also saw a man holding a handgun in his hand running westbound on McAllister. Numerous Gang Task Force officers converged on the scene and initiated a foot chase after the suspect, in the process strategically cutting off his escape routes. The suspect repeatedly ignored commands to drop his gun but finally stopped running and dropped it into a trashcan. He was then arrested.

Ragland was charged with attempted murder, assault, carrying a loaded firearm, and carrying a concealed weapon. He remains in custody.
