San Francisco Police arrested 18 suspects in seven incidents over the past weekend, with five of those arrested responsible for six robberies in under a two-hour period.
The six robberies occurred on Saturday, January 24, starting at 12 midnight and continuing to approximately 1:40 A.M. The five suspects confronted victims on the street in the North Beach area on Powell, Jackson, and Leavenworth streets, and on Broadway. The suspects robbed their victims at gunpoint, robbing them of their property before fleeing in a black Taurus. Based on suspect and vehicle descriptions provided to the officers, officers stopped the car on the Bay Bridge just west of Treasure Island.
Taken into custody were Ronald Minor, 28, Damian Bryant, 18, Marquelle Fenn, 19, Darnell Williams, 19 and a 17-year-old juvenile, all with Richmond or Antioch residences, highlighting the prevalence of commuter criminals. All the suspects were charged with robbery and conspiracy.
Police arrested two suspects in a robbery that occurred on Friday, January 23, at 10:40 A.M. In this incident, two suspects robbed a 29-year-old San Francisco resident, one of them holding a gun to her head, after she got into her car after making an ATM transaction on the 700 block of Beach Street. With witness assistance, police located the suspects at the corner of Columbus Avenue and Bay Street. Taken into custody and charged with robbery and conspiracy were Thomas Draper, 23, and Robert Rye, 30, both of San Francisco. Draper was on felony probation and Rye on parole.
On Saturday, January 24, police arrested Humphrey Garrett, 27, no local address, in a brutal assault and robbery that occurred on a No. 71 Muni bus at approximately 1:45 P.M. The victim, a 26-year-old San Francisco woman, had boarded the bus at Market and Powell streets and was talking on her cell phone at the rear of the bus when the male suspect walked up to her,
punched her in the face, grabbed her phone, and punched her again. Another Muni rider, a woman, taking advantage of the situation, attempted to take the victim's purse, but the victim held on and the woman fled off the bus. The male suspect also fled, but with witness participation, police arrested Garrett a few minutes later at Market and Eighth streets.
Garrett was the suspect in another brutal assault that had occurred 15 minutes prior to the Muni assault in a sports store at Market and Stockton streets, in which he struck a 22 year-old woman store employee who confronted him when he left the store without paying for a sweatshirt. Garrett was charged with robbery, assault, and possession of stolen property.
Later in the day on Saturday, police arrested a suspect after forcefully removing an iPod from the victim, a 21-year-old San Francisco man, had placed on the table in a restaurant on the 600 block of Market Street. The suspect fled, with the victim chasing him, and police arrested the suspect shortly after 7:00 P.M. at Market and New Montgomery streets. Taken into custody was a 17-year-old juvenile of San Francisco.
On Sunday, January 25, police arrested four suspects who confronted three victims waiting for a taxi at 16th and Dolores streets shortly after 2:00 A.M., threatening them with a box knife and stealing their property before getting into a green Chevrolet Cavalier. Police in the area noticed a car being driven erratically, stopped the driver, and discovered that the driver and occupants were involved in the robbery that had just occurred. Police arrested one adult, Marcel Chapman, 20, of San Francisco, and three juveniles, one 17 years old from San Francisco, and two 15 years old, one from San Francisco and one from Daly City. They were charged with robbery, conspiracy, and receiving stolen property. The suspects were responsible for three other robberies in the same area.
In addition, police arrested David Carl Lee, 32, and Iesha Renee Nevels, 23, both of San Francisco, in a robbery that occurred Saturday at 4:10 A.M. on the 100 block of Divisadero Street in which the two suspects robbed 26-year old San Francisco man. Also on Saturday, police arrested Rory Worley, 44, no local address, in a robbery in the Embarcadero Center that day at approximately 1:45 P.M.
Lastly, on Sunday police took Darrell Powell, 19, and Anthony Louis Nelson, 19, both of San Francisco, into custody for three robberies. The first occurred on Thursday, January 22, on the
1700 block of Chestnut Street, the second on Friday on the 2200 block of Larkin, and the last on Sunday on the 900 block of Haight Street. In these three incidents, the suspects emerged from a red Taurus to confront their victims. Based on investigative leads, police located the suspects and the suspect vehicle on the 1300 block of Hawes Street.
